Wildlife for all Tanzanians

The TNRF Secretariat has developed an information pack on the Wildlife Sector as a resource for policy makers and the general public wanting access to independent information on on the topic. These briefs provide information, data, and analysis about the trends of Tanzania’s wildlife populations, causes of those trends, and various links between national economic growth, poverty reduction, and wildlife management. The aim is for the information in these briefs to encourage more informed public debate about the policies and practices governing wildlife management in Tanzania.

Biofuels: a solution to Tanzania’s energy crisis?

As the world faces an energy crisis due to limited oil reserves and a problem of climate change due to greenhouse emissions, increasingly, biofuels (fuel consisting of, or derived from biomass) are seen as the panaecea to these two predicaments by providing an alternative to fossil fuels. Countries of the developed North and the corporate world has been at the forefront of pushing for this alternative which is seen as a win-win solution (i.e. energy security is enhanced whilst the environment is protected).

Policy Forum asks the Parliament not to legislate CDF for now

The Policy Forum has said that the concept of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) which is intended to empower people at the grassroot level financially is a high risk for the government to undertake at the moment.

Members of various non-governmental organisations raised the concern in Dodoma yesterday during a debate that discussed the establishment of the fund.

Over the past decade, civil society organizations (CSOs) in more than 60 countries have initiated activities to analyze their governments’ budgets.Initially, CSOs specialized in budget analysis and advocacy to influence national budget policy.However, as a broader range of CSOs undertake budget work, the scope of this work has expanded to include activities throughout the budget process, including budget implementation and assessing the impact of expenditures.

Strengthening Partnerships to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals by 2030

Policy Analyst from the Ministry of Finance and Planning , Mr. Francis Shirima lamented that the pace of SDGs implementation is still slow in Tanzania. This is  because the nation lacks a  coordination framework to ensure that the government works closely with different stakeholders although the framework is on initiation process by the Ministry of Finance and Planning.

Audit institutions urged to collaborate with CSOs and citizens to make audit reports more meaningful

Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) have been urged to collaborate with other stakeholders including CSOs and the media and the general public so as to make their audit reports be more meaningful. The call was made recently at a meeting hosted by the National Audit Office of Tanzania (NAOT) and the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) in Arusha Tanzania.

Statement of the Coalition for an Effective SADC Tribunal on Reinstatement of the SADC Tribunal (with access to individuals), addressed to the SADC member states (17/08/2016)

On the occasion of the 36th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC Summit), we the undersigned members of the Coalition for an Effective SADC Tribunal, are raising serious concerns over state parties insistence in denying access to justice to the citizenry of this region as per the revised SADC Tribunal Protocol. The Protocol strips the Tribunal of its jurisdiction to hear complaints from individual citizens of SADC.

Kiteto Councilors Urged to be Accountable in implementing their Roles

Kiteto councilors committed themselves to demand for explanations, justifications and clarifications from their authorities in the course of executing their roles in serving the Tanzanian citizens. This was said by Kiteto councilors during a training on their roles and responsibilities in social accountability monitoring (SAM) conducted by the Policy Forum Local Government Working Group to 31 councilors in Kiteto on 18th-23rd July 2016.
