CSOs discuss Illicit Financial Flows From Africa

Policy Forum this week held a special half-day discussion on illicit financial flows from Africa with two international experts on the topic. Raymond Baker, the founder and CEO of the Global Financial Integrity, the leading global institute on illicit financial flow studies was joined by Alvin Mosioma, Coordinator of the Tax Justice Network for Africa, an institution which aims to promote socially just, democratic and progressive taxation systems in Africa.

Policy Forum Mourns the Passing of Steven Kanumba

The Secretariat of Policy Forum, on behalf of the entire network’s members, mourns the sudden death of Steven Kanumba, a film Director and actor who worked with Policy Forum on dramatizing the Social Accountability Monitoring concept.

The screenplay concept that Policy Forum, its scriptwriters and Kanumba jointly developed, resulted in the production of the movie “Kijiji cha Tambua Haki”, a tale that depicts the everyday struggles of rural community members in the fight for accountable local governance.

Multi-stakeholder Group (MSG) Launches the Second Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative Report

Multi-stakeholder Group (MSG) of the TEITI launched the second EITI report which shows among other things that Tanzania received more than USD 300 million from the mining sector in 2009/2010 up almost three times of the reported revenues for the previous year.

The report also represents a step forward from the first report published one year ago including gas revenues being covered for the first time.

Also 24 oil, gas and mining companies have now disclosed their payments more than double as many as in the previous report.
