The Social Media and Organizational Performance Among Civil Society Organizations in Tanzania: The Case of Policy Forum and Selected Member Organizations

The use of social media in organizational activities has been increasing in all parts of the world including Tanzania both for individual communication and for organizational information sharing with stakeholders. In most cases, organizations including Civil Society Organizations have become users of social media aiming at improving organizational performance. The aim of this study was to assess the role of social media in organizational performance at Policy Forum and selected nine member organizations under Policy Forum.

Policy Forum was among representatives of Civil Soceity Organisations from five countries were invited by the International Budget Partnership (IBP) in February 2010 to deliberate on ConstituencyDevelopment Funds (CDFs), a decentralized funding scheme in which the central government transfers funds to each constituency for local development projects.

Over the past decade, civil society organizations (CSOs) in more than 60 countries have initiated activities to analyze their governments’ budgets. Initially, CSOs specialized in budget analysis and advocacy to influence national budget policy. However, as a broader range of CSOs undertake budget work, the scope of this work has expanded to include activities throughout the budget process, including budget implementation and assessing the impact of expenditures.
