Who are we?

Policy Forum is a dynamic network of over 70 Tanzania Civil Society Organisations drawn together by their interest in influencing policy processes on good governance and accountability with a specific focus on public money accountability. The network is facilitated through a lean secretariat office that seeks to recruit for the following position:


Programme Assistant (1 post)


What would you be doing?

Supporting the Policy Manager – Conducting preliminary research and analysis on a diverse range of policy issues, including public budgets and expenditure, governance structures and accountability issues; effective backstopping, follow up and logistical support for policy-related issues; participating in and taking minutes of internal and external meetings; responding to basic correspondence on policy-related issues; organising internal and external meetings; eventually producing initial drafts of Policy Forum published material and presentations depending on initiative, interest and ability.


What skills are we looking for?

  • Awareness of and demonstrated interest in critical issues in the Tanzanian policy environment at local and national level.
  • Good basic analytical skills.
  • Ability to function well in teams and to work productively in a multidisciplinary environment with diverse groups of people.
  • Good communication skills, verbally and in writing, in Kiswahili and English.
  • Ability to deliver high quality results within strict deadlines.
  • Basic IT skills – Office systems, presentations, extensive use of the internet for research and Social Media for advocacy.
  • Demonstrated interest in working with civil society in Tanzania on policy issues.


What key qualifications and experience are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience in social sciences, journalism, law, public policy, governance, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated interest in one or more of the following: 1) analysis of public budgets 2) experience with public sector reform 3) management of advocacy strategies 4) expertise in public policy implementation strategies particularly relating to governance and accountability 5) awareness of and sensitivity to critical issues in the Tanzanian policy environment.
